  • Manthis Religiosa

Michaël Cailloux is devoted and passionate about Art Nouveau and especially René Lalique’s jewellery with his sketches and theatrical combs. The artist viscerally sculpts copper with jewellery craftsmanship and etching techniques. With “Manthis Religiosa”, the praying mantis merges with nature and becomes floral and plant-like. The insect is dressed in bindweeds, a flower often represented in the artist’s work.

  • Raspberry Fish

In love with still life, Michaël Cailloux performs an autumnal symphony in which two calm fishes slide in a whirl of golden foliage. Homage to the great masters of classical painting, this wall jewellery takes on its full dimension in the abundance of details. Fins delicately chiselled, a myriad of scales. As for leaves, limbs, veins, stalks, they all seem to have been petrified and are calling memories of life, which were once in them.

  • Seed

Michaël Cailloux explores the theme of ex-voto, the inside of the body, especially the organs that resemble plants and flowers. Here, the kidney becomes a lace-like delicate flower. Origin of origins, he brings us in his heart of hearts, where ideas are born, all the possibilities, dreams and breaths of what is to become. The subconscious shapes itself, sculpture as automatic writing and an artist whose art is a soft invitation to dream-like explorations.

  • Mother Nature

"My soul inclines upon your brow, my dear, where it seems, That autumn, strewn with freckles dreams"*, the lizard seems to be saying to mother nature. A personified nature, deified in a way that evokes ancient Native American religions, in the style of Aztec bas-relief. We find here two dear subjects of reflexion to Michaël Cailloux: nature and dream. A nature created by fantasy, where dreaming offers an image and a feeling. It’s an invocation, setting up the artist to build his personal vision on, to bring us along for a peculiar journey echoing forgotten magic. *Mallarmé

  • Haute Voltige

Haute Voltige is a tender and joyful allusion to Art Nouveau jewellery where the bee frees itself from the brooch; where the animal free of men comes back to its natural state and exists for itself. Manifesto for a harmonious union between this world and its inhabitants. The cherry tree blossoms are a very discreet and personal homage to a Japanese friend of the artist.

  • Golden Rain

Michaël Cailloux’s lucky animal, the fly of these golden droplets is a symbol of life, where the swarm becomes the breasts and the buzzing, the origin of fertile creation. The golden reflections are countless and the myriad of sparkles seem to be birthing the essence of the world to offer to the audience the sweet hypnosis of a glistening ocean.

  • Golden Anisoptera

    Theme – « Art Nouveau »

Michaël Cailloux is devoted and passionate about Art Nouveau and especially René Lalique’s jewellery with its sketches and theatrical combs. The artist viscerally sculpts copper with jewellery craftsmanship techniques. With “Golden Anisoptera”, he also draws inspiration from “still life”, another one of his most cherished themes. The artist pays tribute to Georg Flegel, an 18th century German painter who enjoyed representing dragonflies in his paintings, bringing life to his work. Similarly, this lace-like designed wall jewellery is truly an anthem to the beauty of existence.

    Odonate

Michaël Cailloux’s interpretation of this animal king from the “Art Nouveau” era certainly brings to mind René Lalique. The same subtle sculpture, the same love for nature and with the same fascination for metamorphosis. The craft on the veins of the wings is perfection, absolute lace-like meticulous work. Then when the eyes gaze off into the rigorousness of the piece, there seem to be something of a “Paris of yesterday” floating in the air. Maybe it’s Sarah Bernard’s ghost. At the Top of Our Lungs

Art gives in to nature and the beauty of humour. This comb is certainly excessive, but hairstyling is not its intention. It’s an ode, a peaceful homage to a love of nature and its fragility. It’s not up to nature to be functional anymore, to transform itself into an object. It’s up to the object to become nature and pave its path until we forget it once had a utility, that it had a use, to just become beautiful and decorative. • Mutation

With Mutation, Michaël Cailloux eludes to a fusion between animal and nature. Here, the glorified spider, far from the fears it can evoke, transforms itself into precious and natural lace, an anthem to beauty. Key to the Art Nouveau movement, here the theme of metamorphosis is the beginning of the artist’s more personal and dream-like exploration.

    Paris by night

This piece, with the Eiffel Tower illuminated by floral fireworks and intimately adorned with two snails, is a love letter from Michaël Cailloux to Paris. The artist reminds us how even though the city has been hurt multiple times these past few years, it remains as majestic as ever. This piece is like a snapshot, a joyful postcard to refute and counter the tragic image imposed on the City of Lights. “We are Paris, we are together, we are happy” seem to be exclaimed by these two sensual gastropods. The animal with no animosity appears to be peaceful, soft and a bringer of hope before a cold and hopeless world. The grim and morbid can’t stay any longer; life and only life remains. Ghost fish

Symbol of fertility and abundance in many cultures, this ghost fish seems to be very alive. In the style of skeletons waltzing to macabre dances, this fish possessed, by the flowers he’s wearing is perfectly happy and pleased with his state. It’s not surprising, knowing that death is one of Michaël Cailloux’s dearest themes to research. Nonetheless, there’s no tragedy here, it’s merely an exploration of this theme along amusing and subtle roads, with this ghost fish as the guide. Floral Vanity

This skull seems to have recently escaped from one of the many Mexican “Day of the Dead” festivities. It surely portrays Michaël Cailloux’s research and work around the theme of death. A joyful death, where sadness has no place. A death that can sometimes be more lively than life itself, to which this smiling skull is a testament. The artist always goes back and forth between classic and modern, thus revisiting in his own fanciful way the vanities of previous centuries.
